Over $7 million for a Boilermaker who worked at many of the petrochemical facilities along the Mississippi River between New Orleans to Baton Rouge. The Plaintiff suffered from pleural mesothelioma and the attorneys at our sponsor, Baron & Budd, P.C., were able to obtain settlements totaling the amount above for him and his family.
The Plaintiff worked in and out of the oil refineries and chemical plants as stated above. He worked for many different contractors as well. The exposures occurred when he was performing his duties as a Boilermaker at these many worksites. His Boilermaker duties leading to asbestos exposure included tearing off old asbestos insulation on and around the boilers and turbines used to supply power to the processes in the plants. Tearing out old firebrick and refractory materials via hand or using jackhammers inside the boilers themselves. Some of the boilers are so large you can put scaffolding on the inside of the boilers. Boilermakers are not the only trades on the jobs here. Virtually all other trades are working in the area as well. Once they tore off the old asbestos materials, they would be put back on by the other trades (Insulators) and Laborers would clean up after them.
This case was handled by the team of New Orleans mesothelioma lawyers and staff at our sponsor, Baron & Budd, P.C. Chris Colley & David Cannella were the two Baron & Budd partners in charge of working up the case. The lawsuit was filed in Orleans Parish and pushed very quickly through the legal system. All of the defendants were on their heals from the outset and really did not have good defenses to the claims. It helps when you have the the facts and truth on your side. All of the defendants ultimately resolved the claims against them and we sought further compensation from the Asbestos Bankruptcy Trusts.
